About Chip Osborne

Chip Osborne is a professional horticulturist with thirty-five years’ experience in the green industry.  After education in conventional greenhouse management and several years following that approach, he converted his greenhouse operation to an organic environment.  In the mid-1990’s his extensive horticultural background was broadened to include turfgrass management.  He is a NOFA Accredited Land Care Professional and a member of the NOFA Organic Land Care Governing Body.  Chip is a member of the Board of Directors of Beyond Pesticides in Washington DC.  He is also a ten-year elected member of the Town of Marblehead MA Recreation and Park Commission where he developed an organic management program for parks and athletic fields in 2001 in response to a Board of Health mandate that the town eliminate the use of pesticides and synthetic fertilizers.  In 2007 he founded Osborne Organics, a company that provides natural turf consulting services to business, municipal, and institutional clients.  A major focus of the business is providing education in the area of natural turf management.  Chip developed A Systems Approach to Natural Turf Management™ as a method of maintaining turf without the use of toxic chemicals.

In this presentation Chip Osborne will discuss some compelling reasons why we should consider a natural approach to lawn care.  Public health, children’s health, storm-water runoff, and water quality issues are all reasons why we should begin to reduce our dependence on synthetic and chemical products to grow our lawns and gardens.   This presentation will allow the do-it-yourselfer to care for the lawn or for the homeowner to convey their wishes to their landscape contractor.  The information in this presentation is also a very good introduction to natural lawn care for the landscape contractor.
