About
Jeff Pfoutz, Local beekeeper, began keeping bees with three colonies as a retirement hobby in 2002. He began by taking a course from Loudoun Beekeepers Association of which he is a member and Treasurer. He now operates as Loudoun Center Apiaries, LLC and manages around 20 honey producing colonies in Loudoun County. The colonies are in a number of yards in the Waterford and Lincoln areas. In addition to harvesting honey Jeff also maintains 20 smaller nucleus colonies in which he raises starter bee colonies for local beekeepers. Honeybees and their status has been much in the news of late but the benefit of plant pollination goes beyond the realm of commercial food production. Local beekeeper Jeff will present an overview of the critical role in pollination played by not just honeybees, but insects, birds, and other animals. For
